About Paleon

Learn the natural world. All of it.

Paleon is a nature education company and free mobile nature learning app. It helps people identify species, understand what they find, and keep learning about the living world around them.

See it. Identify it. Learn about it. Keep exploring.

What is the Paleon app?

Nature identification and learning, together

Nature learning can mean jumping between plant ID apps, bird ID apps, news sites, videos, and learning platforms. Paleon brings those experiences together, so a question in the field can lead to a deeper understanding without losing the thread.

The Paleon app combines photo-based species identification, short interactive nature lessons, daily nature and science news, and questions and explanations about discoveries. It is a nature identification app and species identification app as well as a place to learn about nature across many subjects.

Identify more than 1 million species

Use photo-based identification to explore plants, animals, birds, insects, fungi, fish, trees, and more. Paleon supports identification across more than 1M species. Results are a starting point for learning; verify important identifications with trusted local sources.

Learn through quick lessons

Explore short, interactive nature lessons about dinosaurs, animals, plants, oceans, geology, evolution, ecosystems, fossils, fungi, and prehistoric life. Each topic can open a path to another question.

Read daily nature news

Follow daily nature news and science stories that put discoveries in context. Learn what researchers are finding and why it matters to the natural world.

Ask about what you discover

Questions and clear explanations connect a species or story to the bigger picture. Paleon gives you a way to learn about the entire natural world in one place.

A discovery in your pocket

Identify plants and animals as you explore

Find something outside and want to know what it is? The Paleon app helps you identify species from photos, then gives you a way to learn more. Explore birds, insects, trees, flowers, fungi, fish, and other living things rather than treating identification as the end of the journey.

Whether you are on a walk, in a garden, or looking closely at a familiar place, the aim is to make everyday curiosity easier to follow.

Make room for wonder

Small lessons. Big subjects.

Nature lessons should be easy to begin and rewarding to follow. Paleon's interactive lessons make room for questions about how life changes, how ecosystems work, what fossils reveal, and how Earth's history connects to the nature we see today.

From oceans and geology to evolution, plants, animals, and prehistoric life, the app helps turn a few minutes of curiosity into a reason to keep exploring.

Stay curious

Read daily nature and science news

New discoveries can change how we understand the world. Paleon's daily nature news makes science and nature stories easier to follow, with explanations that help answer what happened, what it means, and what we still want to know.

It is another way to keep learning between outdoor discoveries and lessons.

Why we built Paleon

Nature is connected. Learning about it should be, too.

Learning about nature is often scattered between separate tools and sources. Identifying a species, understanding its habitat, following a science story, and asking a new question can feel like four different journeys.

Paleon brings those experiences closer together. The goal is not to replace careful science or local knowledge. It is to make it simpler to begin exploring, find useful explanations, and build a habit of noticing the world around you.

More than dinosaurs

Dinosaurs are part of Paleon's history. Paleon first grew by creating educational content about animals, dinosaurs, prehistoric life, evolution, and nature. After years of teaching through content, we built an app where people could identify, learn about, and follow nature themselves.

But Paleon is not just about dinosaurs. Our goal is the entire natural world: life past and present, from fungi and insects to forests, oceans, fossils, geology, and the ecosystems that connect them.

Our mission

Make the natural world easier to understand

Paleon's mission is to help more people learn about nature, wherever their curiosity starts. A photo, a short lesson, or a question about a discovery can become the beginning of a deeper connection with the living world.

Paleon B.V. is based in the Netherlands. We create nature education for people who want to look closer, learn clearly, and keep asking questions.
