Ceratosaurus: the Jurassic hunter with a horn on its nose
Ceratosaurus carried a bony horn above its nose. It lived during the Late Jurassic Period. This was a meat-eating dinosaur with large teeth and a long tail. It moved on two legs. Its skull gives it a shape that is easy to recognise. The horn sat above the snout rather than at the end of a long frill. This makes it quite different from the horns of plant eaters such as Triceratops. The rest of the head still carried the jaws of a predator. [1] [2]

A skull that stands out
The horn is part of the fossil evidence. Its presence does not depend on an artist's guess. The soft covering around it is harder to reconstruct. Bone and skin do not preserve equally well. That difference affects how confidently we can picture its face. An outer covering could change the horn's final outline. The fossil tells us where the bony core stood. It gives a less complete picture of the surface an animal would have seen. [1] [2]

More than a nose horn
Ceratosaurus could grow to several metres in length. It shared its wider world with other large predators. Similar diets do not mean those animals lived in exactly the same way. Differences in bodies and habitats may have mattered. Fossils rarely reveal every detail of those relationships. Living predators can share a landscape while choosing different prey or places to feed. That provides possible questions to test with fossils. It does not prove that Ceratosaurus followed any one modern animal's habits. [1] [2]

A purpose still debated
The nose horn may have helped Ceratosaurus display to other animals. Its shape alone does not prove that it was a fighting weapon. Scientists have to test such ideas against the skull's structure. A striking feature can have more than one possible role. For now, the horn's existence is clearer than its full purpose. A feature used for display has to be seen by another animal. Shape and position are therefore useful clues when considering that idea. The fossil horn allows those questions even though its original colours are unknown. [1] [2]
